Shipping update information- September 25, 2005- please read all details
Dear Valued Customer,
Due to the increase in shipping charges from our suppliers we are raising our shipping rates slightly instead of increasing our product pricing. Hopefully the increase in fuel prices is temporary, and it’s effect on shipping.
Since Hurricane Katrina the costs of shipping our ingredients has soared. Previously we had been paying about 40% shipping on the majority of our ingredients, as most of the supply companies pad their shipping rates to increase their bottom line. Our last two deliveries took our breath away….$168 shipping for $255 of ingredients. That’s an increase of about 25%. I am trying to source other suppliers, but unfortunately, most of them are charging about the same for shipping.
July 2007 update...shipping as you know is still increasing. The last couple of months we've had another 15 to 20% increase on our incoming freight for ingredients and packaging.
I am not going to increase our product prices at this time, as I am hopeful that the inflated shipping prices will eventually decrease. I am going to increase our shipping rate instead. Kris and I have spent the last few months working on lowering our shipping prices, and doing some creative packaging and have been keeping those charges somewhere between 15 and 12 percent. Our new rates will be somewhere between 18 and 28 percent on small to medium sized orders. It will vary depending upon the type of product you order, and the weight of the product.
Large orders weighing over 150 pounds can be shipped via trucking companies instead of Fed Ex or UPS. I have been working with a shipping consolidator and he can deliver product more reasonably that the other two
shippers if your order is over 150 pounds. I recently had him pick up a large supply order for us that weighed about 500 pounds, and he saved about 25% of the rate FedEx and UPS had quoted. I just had him quote another shipment today that weighs about 225 pounds, goes to a zone 7 and the shipping rate is a little less than 20% of the invoice of the products.
So the best advise I can give you for Christmas orders is to order all that you think you’ll need for Christmas at one time so we can have it shipped by the freight consolidator, and that way we can keep your shipping under 20%. I know that many of you are used to ordering a little here, and a little there, as we get close to Christmas as you have money in your budget, but ordering it all at once will allow you a lower shipping fee, and a higher profit margin this holiday season.
If you have any questions please call us at 509-548-7780.
Thank you for your business. We wish you a very profitable and prosperous Holiday Season in your business…..as Christmas is just around the corner.
Sincerely,
Linda Boyd
